2012.04.15 Club Balattou

Last Sunday we played at the Club Balattou again, and as it was on other occasions, we had a lot of fun, the sound was great and this time the weather collaborated a little bit more, it was a fantastic spring night in Montreal. This time we played some new material, including "Plus-que-parfait", a jazzy/funky piece we like very much with Richard on the Tenor and Gustavo on the Bass and "Esparaban" a spanish/flamenco/middle-east delirious song that starts all warm and fuzzy and ends on a catrastophic metallic-Paco-de-Lucia emulsion. This time we resucitated "Baghdad", a very percussive song with lots of samples and middle-eastern flavours.

2012.03.07 Club Balattou

We really enjoy playing at the Balattou, it feels like the kind of place that is constantly reverberating from years and years of music contained within its walls. As it has been the case before, the patrons, people attending the place and soundman were very helpful and nice to work with. 

This time we were playing as part of the Sily D'Or which is one of the series organized by the Festival Nuits d'Afrique, and we had a 1 hour set after the opening band Melodi. In spite of this being a Wednesday, the place was packed and the ambiance was great. For this show we had selected our most energetic material, and based on the reactions from the crowd we got the results we were looking for. One of the highlights that night was that we were honoured with the visit of M. Stanley Péan, well known journalist, novelist, writer and among other talents the radio host of Quand le Jazz est là at Espace Musique, Radio-Canada.

We opened the show with a very demanding piece, which at the time had no name assigned to it, we had code-named "Intro". As we were looking for a short, punchy name, a series of constructive exchanges took place that concluded with a very colorful name for this tune, and video below: we hope you enjoy "Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylonia, who died at 34, because a dandruff attack"

2012.01.16 CKUT Radio

Previous to our gig @ the Ballatou, we appeared in CKUT 90.3 FM radio, with recorded music by Krakatoa sent for the first time to the airwaves!. For the occasion, we advanced a 1/2 mixed, still not mastered versions of Appalache and Eleven Bullets. Thank you Marty!!!!!, keep the great space you have at CKUT going.

2011.12.27 Club Balattou

Our presentation at the Club Balattou was one of our best, as everything went well in spite of the weather we had (rain and then lots of snow) that night. The owner, their staff and the sound man treated us great, we had room and time to setup our rigs and they took care of everything. 

This was the first event organized by our new Manager/Agent, Lissa and we can say that we had placed the bar very high on ourselves as this first show together went very well. That night we played a lot of new material we had been working on during the last few months, including several where Gustavo plays the bass (both fretted and fretless 6 string basses), Richard uses his Alto sax and Robert brings his new Bongo to life. The new songs were:
    - Oh Ricardo!, funky interpretation of AWB's "Oh Maceo!"
    - El Mejillon, a sort-of-rumba, latin song, bongo/bass/alto
    - Nouveal Chemin, new creation, jazzy song with a lot of fretless bass
    - Espoir Infinie, very dramatic song, probably one of the highlights we had.
As we always do, we are extremely thankful of our friends that came to see us through the weather and the very busy holiday season; your support to keep this Krakatoa dream we are having humble us in every way, and inspire us to keep moving this project further. 2011.12.27 CKUT Interview

Today at 10:00AM Krakatoa had its first radio interview on CKUT 90.3 FM radio, during the time slot reserved for one of their most popular programs, Basa Basa. Marty, who was conducting the show this morning gave us lots of room to play and treated us great, great program, great guy, all great.
